Call to Order---Chair Larsen

Pledge of Allegiance – Pledge led by Daren Tanner of Scout troop 1093.

Minutes:  Jul 19th—accepted, Aug 02nd ---accepted & Aug 16th --accepted.

    Starr Campbell (Chair) The Magna Town Council has challenged the Kearns Community Council to a 1 year Fitness Challenge.    The Kearns Chair has agreed to the challenge.    More information to follow .
    Alex—Magna Youth Council--Invites Kearns Youth Council (KYC) for leadership Training, September 24th from 10-2pm at Magna Copper Park.    magnayouthcouncil@gmail.com.
   State Representative-Eric Hutchings—World Cup in late January at Kearns Olympic Oval—home to sixteen (16) International speed skater teams.
   David Young—Skate Park ran (2) skate camps w/40 kids.   Will open more come next year.
   Brett Would---Property maintenance ownership??   Large weeds along 5400 south & 5600 west---referred to Code Enforcement.
Councilmember Brennan arrives 6:50pm.
Councilmember Snow has been excused at 6:55pm.

Public Reports:

Mayor Carroon:

  1. Idea ‘open house’ energy efficiency county program—improvements—10-2 pm Oct 01—Saturday.
  2. Fitness Program –slcofit.org.—all ages
  3. Re-writing ordinances—modernizing code enforcement.

Senator Mayne speaks on her views and Kearns as a total residential township, therefore require different codes than Copper City, Magna and others in the county.

  1. September 29-30, Senior Expo—55 or older, a lot of information.   Free.
  2. Drive-thru Flu shots on 08 Oct at the SL County South Parking lot.   Costs ???
  3. UPD Fee being reduced for normal residencies and shifted to property tax, given a separate line item. 
  4. County budget Municipal & County is receiving a 6% cut.
  5. Fractions of Millcreek is looking to corporate into its own city.   They need to have 50,000 signatures to have it put on the ballot.
  6. 13 Oct ACCT mtg—proposed budget project.    Kudos to Kearns for having their budget already submitted.

Councilmember Markus arrives 7:15pm.

Mayor’s Office—Michelle—SLCo.org—new easy organization of Code Enforcement on website.    Local officers are Troy (801-301-1545& Russell 801-330-5482---Nancy White Graffiti 801 468 2182.
   
Westside Representative—Greg Schulz— Kudos to Kearns for having their budget submitted and all groups will possibly receive the 6% budget cut.

UPD—Capt. Fassett

  1. All reports show that the Kearns Parade went well.
  2. Crosswalk enforcement—handing out mostly warning tickets.
  3. Schools SR Officers, lunch with a cop for outstanding students.
  4. ‘GREAT’ Program for grades 5-7.
  5. Tagging is on the increase.
  6. They also assist on code enforcement visits.

UFA –Chief Haakenson

  1. Remembering 9-11 at 8 am Sunday.
  2. Assisting the American Legion, flag retirement at dusk at KOFPC south parking lot.

Kearns Youth Council (KYC)Nancy Gomez & Jake Lund

  1. Showing new logo design to council.   Chair Larsen asks if they are bringing it back to the executive meeting for KCC approval.   Councilmember Larrabee said they do not have to have council approval.    Chair stated, with them being a sub-committee of the council and the vote from the last meeting---Councilmember Larrabee stated that the KYC is not a part of the KCC, but a stand-alone entity.
  2. KYC will be assisting with the ‘open house’ on 01 Oct.
  3. This Saturday they will be at the Pony League Field (8 am-noon) for the clean-up & building of the new snack shack.
  4. They showed the new magnets (with the KCC logo) and KYC lettering for their drive for sponsors/donations.

Bob Jepson—SLCo Health Dept.

  1.  Program titled Islands of Safety Project
  2. CDC provides funding
  3. Response principles ESF 8
  4. Quarterly meetings invite communities
  5. CERT Training funds  and exercises training

Committee Reports:
  Community Involvement—Chair Larsen

  1. Parade & Hometown Night were a great success and many thanks to all volunteers involved.

   Councilmember Larrabee states the Enthos satellite school for Magna will be for the fall of 2012.

Unfinished Business:
Chair Larsen asked if there were any corrections, additions, etc.... that council wanted to have put in or deleted.  All members agreed with it as it was sent to them for review.   Signing will take place at executive meeting..

New Business;
Announcement for the 9-11 memorial service on Sunday morning at 8am.   Cougar lane and 5400 south.
