Kearns Skate Park

Overview
The Kearns Skate/BMX Park features 24,000 square feet of terrain with a street plaza and an individual bowl to help complement one another.
The street plaza features gaps, multiple height benches, transitions, stairs, handrails, ledges, step-ups and hips. Also in the street plaza
is a “Pier 7 Block” that has been replicated from a famous skate spot in San Francisco, CA and also replicated is the “Macba Gap” which is a
famous skate spot in Barcelona, Spain. The Park was designed with the input and suggestions from hundreds of Kearns residents. Thanks to all
of you that made this wonderful facility a reality!
Management Plan
Facility Issues and Concerns
Hours:
The Kearns Skate Park is open from 7:00am to dusk (no later than9:00pm). The County trespassing ordinance will be enforced after park is closed.
Restrooms:
Restrooms are unlocked for public use from 7am to dusk (no later than 9pm) Monday-Friday. Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 9:00pm.
(Rest rooms are closed during winter months, November thru March)
If restrooms are locked during skate park operational hours, please call Park Operations at 801-483-5473.
Lighting:
Security lighting will operate during non-operational hours. Light fixtures are baffled to minimize impacts to surrounding neighborhoods.
Parking on Ed Mayne
No Parking is allowed on Ed Mayne roadway. Curbs are painted red and signage designates Ed Mayne roadway as a “No Parking Zone”.
Allowed Skate Park Users
This is a non-motorized Skate Park. Only BMX bicycles without pegs, Skateboards, Rollerskates, and In-line Skates are allowed. All other wheeled devices are not permitted.
Fence
The skate park is fenced with one entrance gate. This gate will be unlocked during operational hours. The gate may be locked for facility repair or behavioral issues.
Security Cameras
Initially, security cameras will not be installed at the park. If bad behavior becomes uncontrollable, security cameras may be considered.
Garbage
Salt Lake County provides garbage containers throughout Oquirrh Park. Garbage containers are located inside the skate park for convenient use.
Graffiti
Graffiti is not allowed on any surface of the skate park. All graffiti will be removed promptly by Salt Lake County Park Operations. Report all tagging and graffiti to Salt Lake County Park Operations at 801-483-5473.
Bullying
Bullying is unacceptable behavior. To report bullying: First contact Kearns Recreation Center 801-967-4404, Second contact the Unified Police Department 801-743-7000.
Spectator Seating
An 8 foot turf grass buffer between the fence and skating surface is provided for spectator seating along with benches in two locations.
Skate at Your Own Risk
This park is a non-supervised facility. Skateboarding and skating are hazardous recreational activities. Use of this facility may result in death or other serious injury. Any use is at your own risk and users should skate or ride at their own ability level. Salt Lake County does not assume any responsibility for injuries. The use of protective equipment, including helmets, knee and elbow pads and wrist guards are strongly recommended.

Behavioral Issues
Graffiti
Graffiti is a criminal offense and will be treated as such by any officer responding. Graffiti removal will be done ASAP by County Parks after documentation. Photo documentation is appreciated.
Trespassing After Hours of Operation
Trespassing after hours will be treated criminally by responding officers.
Bullying/Language Issues
Minor behavior issues can be handled by Kearns Rec Center staff when they become aware and should be documented. Staff may respond with counseling or excluding (trespassing) violators per County policy. Repeat or serious offenses should be reported to police and will be treated criminally
Noise
Users are subject to Salt Lake County’s Noise Ordinance. Stereos and other music players are prohibited.
Patrolling Ed Mayne Traffic/Pedestrian Crossing
Traffic laws including jaywalking and illegal parking will be enforced. Regular patrols can deal with violators as observed. Report parking or traffic issues to the Unified Police.
