Kearns
High School Community Council---Chuck reported that he and Kathy
both attended this meeting at the request by the
Kearns High School
Community Council Chair and also Principal Hess that the KCC assist
to resolve this issue.
This council has
brought up concerns about the youth of Kearns High and surrounding
schools hanging around the railroad tracks both during
and after
school. They, as well as others, feel this is a huge safety issue.
Youth could be seriously injured or even death by the train and the
tracks.
This council is looking towards possibly building a walk
over above the tracks at a certain point.
This will allow the youth
to cross the tracks safely. Some brainstorming on this was
conducted.
There is a spot just east of the Gates ball field where
students are often dropped off by parents in the morning and cross
the tracks to and from school.
This spot (amongst others) is also
used by students at lunch time. An aerial view of this location
shows a vacant lot where parents often drop kids. Discussion was had
about approaching UTA to see if they in fact now have the rights to
the use of those tracks and also to see if UTA
and/or the County
might be interested in partnering with the School District in
purchasing this property to set up a permanent drop off point
for
kids to go to and fro safely across (tunnel or bridge or whatever).
It was determined that Chuck and Kathy would report back to the KCC
for decision on participation in this effort and also that
Chuck
would check with Dave Huber at UTA, etc.
Coalition Against Tolling---Kevin
reported a coalition
has been formed to address this.
Their focus is to not have any
tolling on the upcoming roads, and road improvements being discussed.
Kevin Lundy is taking lead on this one
and has attended a couple meetings with this Coalition and can give a
report at future meeting due to lack of time.
