Call To Order---Kevin Lundy, Chairman
Pledge Of Allegiance---Kyler Greene, Boy Scout Troop 965
Roll Call Of Members---Eight council members in attendance, one excused, as listed above.
Minutes---Executive and public minutes for 11-21-06 were reviewed and approved as corrected in executive meeting.
Correspondence Folder---Reviewed by council members.
Sheriff Report---Deputy
Arlen Bennett thanked the council for their patience and working with
him.
Reported that their Clean Street program is working well and
they are getting positive feedback.
The strip mall where Bandaleros,
etc… is his top priority and is still an open and on going case.
County Report---Mayor
Peter Corroon attended and gave the county report. He recognized the
Miss Kearns Royalty
and said they looked a lot different than the
last time he saw them. Last time they looked pretty scary,
since it
was at the Halloween party the recreation center had. Thank them for
all their attention they give to Kearns and the residents here.
He
stated that the Salt Lake County budget was done and no new taxes
will be put in place except for those that have been previously voted
on
and approved by the citizens. It has been reported to him that
the after school programs are going well and looking to expand.
First piece of HB40 has to be complete by 4-1-07, gave Mountain View
Corridor update stating no decision
on alignment has been made for
the west side, and thanked the council and all in attendance for
their support.
Representative Jim Dunnigan also spoke to the
issue of streetlights. Working on getting more for Kearns.
Library—Susan Spicer reported
that the gang problem at the
library has been reported to her director
and they will be having a
meeting in the future with the sheriff to discuss this problem.
They
have additional computers now and are working out great, job fair
will take place in January 07,
they are working towards a self check
out plan, and their Christmas party will be 12-21-06 at 7:00 PM.
Code Enforcement---No report.
United Fire---No report. Chuck stated that this would only be quarterly report.
Committee
Reports---
Planning & Zoning---Chuck
reported that we
received a request to approve a home daycare at 5600 S. 4015 W.
Since we did not have any good information on this and no one was in
attendance from there that this be discussed at our next meeting on
1-2-07.
At that time we will then make recommendations to Kearns
Planning & Zoning. Discussion on the Campos Market issue
and on
business license change request. The council wants better
communication on these.
Chuck will present these issues to Kearns
Planning & Zoning meeting on 12-6-06.
Al stated he received
notification that there will be no planning & zoning meeting on
12-6-06.
Parks & Rec---Kevin
reported that a committee
was discussed for the ZAP funding and Cathy Harding was put in as
chair over this committee.
He explained committee duties (as in
executive meeting).
Anyone interested in working with this committee
please contact Cathy Harding at 688-9376.
After School
Program---Cathy Harding spoke on behalf of Nicolina Womack
(un-able to attend) stating that they are getting good feedback
from
the schools and community about this program. They are looking for
community projects to get the kids involved in.
They need donations
to repair the floor of the room at Kearns Junior High they have been
given. It is approx. 884 square feet.
Sam stated she could possibly
help them with this and has some material she would donate.
Unfinished
Business—
Kathy reported on the Council Christmas Social. Gave
an update on the activities that would be going on, date, time,
place,
and encouraged everyone to attend. Will work in conjunction
with the Utah Olympic Oval.
Sub For Santa---Sam reported
that
the fourth grade class at Entheos School is working very hard on this
project and
that she will be getting the name of a family in need for
them. She will email council members a list of items needed.
Council agreed that all communication, donations, etc… will go
through Sam.
New Business---
Kevin
reported that in executive meeting the council held elections for
their 2007 officers. They will be as follows,

Kevin then gave the
council’s First State Of The Township Year-End Address.
Thanked everyone for their support, thanked all the council members
for their dedication to the community, the council, and to him as
chair,
listed the accomplishments of the council over the last year,
and reported on what the council is looking forward to in the future.
Citizen Input---Peri
Kinder, Silvertip Drive, Kearns stated she has been covering the
council meetings for the Journal Newspaper
the last four years and
wished to thank the council for doing a great job. She appreciated
what each member is doing for the Kearns community.
Announcements---
As
on agenda a back table. Charles Henderson reminded everyone the
council is still taking applications
for the opening on the Financial
Oversight Committee.
