Call To Order---Chuck McDowell, Chairman

 

Pledge Of Allegiance---Jennifer Penn, Miss Kearns 2007

 

Roll Call Of Members---Seven in attendance, two excused, as listed above.

 

Minutes---In executive meeting the executive and public minutes were approved as written for 4/17/2007.

 

Consent Calendar---Chuck stated all actions done in executive meeting were accepted.

 

Sheriff Report---Deputy Bennett thanked the KCPA for all the graffiti clean up they have been doing.  The April clean up was spearheaded by this group.  May 31st he will be having a neighborhood watch group meeting at the Utah Olympic Oval at 7:00 PM for those interested in starting a watch group or just finding out more info about them.

 

Salt Lake County Report---Mayor Peter Corroon addressed the council and those in attendance.  He updated on HB40 issue, county plan to plant more trees county wide, new sanitation director is Casey Ally, there is an opening on the Kearns Planning and Zoning board, and lightly touched on the school districts issue.

 

Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center---General Manager Brent Sheets gave an update on a few of the programs the facility has to offer, free lunch program serving approx. 800 lunches per day in the summer, gave recap of their 9th year they have increased revenue and kept expenses down, and thanked the council and Kearns community for their support. 

 

Kearns Recreation Center---Director David Young reported on the programs this facility offers, huge child care program, Jr Jazz, dance program, track and field, T Ball, Easter egg hunt, and jr. golf.  He thanked the county and the Kearns community for all their support. 

 

 

Committee Reports---Transportation Summit---Chuck reported this was a success and have good attendance.  Said they had more information on what was discussed previously with input from the county.  Planning & Zoning---Kevin reported the Kearns planning and zoning has an opening and will be meeting tomorrow.  Community Involvement---Paula reported she does not have all the invoices yet for Taste of Kearns.  They will be available next meeting, but did bring approx. amounts.  Chuck stated we may go ahead and vote to some additional funding if need be.  Since TJ, council treasurer, was not in attendance this issue was tabled till next meeting.  Public Safety---Sam stated that she would like to discuss future projects later.

 

Unfinished Business---Donna Mead, Kearns resident wanted to know if Kearns has a specific clean up time set aside for all the debris.  Chuck stated that the county will be providing containers in May and June.  She also had questions on Kearns Improvement Districts replacement sewer line project and the “mess” they have left the roads in.  Chuck suggested she hold her questions still next meeting and will invite KID to come to address.  County Containers---Chuck reported that they will start arriving on 5/15/07 and go through 6/4/07.  Tree Planting---Claudia Nabos reported that her organization replaced the tree at the cannon at her tree planing ceremony.  She thanked council members who attended.  Gave update on how her clean up went at 5400 South & Northwest Ave.  Kevin reported on 5/5/07 at 8:30 AM there will be a clean up on the south side of 5400 South on both sides of the hill.  This will go till approx. 11:30 AM.  All are welcome to join in.

 

New Business---None

 

Citizen Input---Vickie Allison, Kearns resident expressed her concern about KID sewer lines and wanted to know when the roads will be re-paved.  They have left them patched, but in a “bad way”.  Peri Kinder, stated that she has been the reported for the Kearns area for some time now, but has recently been moved to the Murray area.  Expressed thanks to everyone and will miss them all.  She stated that the Taylorsville, Kearns Journal has a new editor—Kim Wells.
