Correspondence Folder--None.

 

Citizen Input--David Taylor, 5985 Parkwood Dr.  Kearns reported on their graffiti wall painting project.  Stated it was very successful.  Presented council members with pictures of event.  Donated left over supplies to the council for future similar projects.

 

UDOT--Teri Newell discussed the re-alignment of 5600 West, Mountain West Corridor.  She stated in September 08 they would have the final alignment.  All the shifting that was done was not in the Kearns area.  Website address udot.ut.gov/mountainview   Several council members along with citizens expressed their concerns.   

 

Public Reports—Mayor Peter Corroon—reported that Kearns now has 2 full time code enforcement officers and can be reached through 468-2176.  Dumpsters will be delivered in Kearns beginning 5-8-08, brought map of Kearns showing where road work will begin, and reported that they received 10%-15% of the HB40 survey’s back. Sheriff Report-- Cpt. Teri Summers reported that the sheriff office would have bins available for people to dispose of their old medications or over the counter medications they need to take out of the house thus leaving no temptations in the house.  Can be used after regular office hours and privacy will be kept.  She also reported they are working on obtaining some additional deputies this year. COP--Tabled.  West Side Rep.---Greg Schulz reported UDOT East West study is currently going on.  Mountain View corridor construction will start in the south area and work north.  Also reported UTA may request rate hike do to price of gas. Treasurer—Kevin presented a Special Funds Request to the council for reimbursement to the Parkwood citizens in the amount of $75.00 for their supplies they purchased for their graffiti wall clean up.  Debby stated she would give ok to come out of her public safety funds.   This will be voted on at 5/20/08 meeting.  Chuck brought forward vendor invoice for the Kearns Jr High after school program DJ equipment.  It was to Guitar Center for $2114.59.  Marlon stated that we had previously approved $2000.00 and that at one time he thought the report was that the Kearns Jr. High program was under the $2000.00.  Chuck stated we would discuss and vote on this at 5-20-08 meeting.  Chuck turned in the invoice, for payment, from Taylorsville/Kearns Journal for our last newsletter in the amount of $1491.00.

 

Committee Reports--Planning & Zoning---Kevin reported again on the request from the Door Church, file # 24159.  Pastor Josh Scribner was in attendance to present and answer questions.  ***Motion by Al to approve favorable conditional use permit to the Door Church.  2nd/Paula.  Vote taken.  6 yes, 0 no.  Motion passed.  Master Plan—Al Britton reported that the 1995 Kearns Master Plan is “mostly complete”.  He stated that he and his committee looked at the reports and stated “we have no tax base to be our own city so we want to be the best bedroom community of Salt Lake”.  He also reported on Oquirrh Park stating there is further development planned such as trees, walking trails, pavilions, bike path, and skatepark. Al stated that Kearns is the first township to complete their master plan for the county and a model for other townships.

 

8:00 PM---***Motion by Al to extend meeting to 8:20 PM. 2nd/Paula.  Vote taken.  5 yes, 0 no.  Motion passed.

 

Health & Welfare---Andrea Boone, Red Cross stated that Reno Nevada had another 4.2 earthquake.  Red Cross on the scene.  Gave her report as to the status of the KCC Health Fair and Red Cross involvement.  She said Red Cross has First Aid Kits, but we may need to pay for them.  She will find out cost.  Community Involvement—Paula stated she would like to thank publicly the Taste of Kearns Committee members.  They worked countless hours and made this event a huge success again this year.   Announced that help is needed to build our float for this year.  Event scheduled is listed.  Skatepark—Cathy Harding gave update on status of skatepark.  There will be a public meeting May 28, 2008.  Time and place have not been set yet.  She reported there is still no definite location, but county has proposed locations.  This will be a world class skatepark.  Chuck stated that it would be well lit and well policed.
