Call To Order---Kevin Lundy, Chairman

 

Pledge Of Allegiance---Westside Representative Greg Schulz

 

Roll Call Of Members---Seven members in attendance, two excused.  As listed.

 

Minutes---Executive minutes for 4-21-2009 were tabled.

 

Citizen Input---Mary Villanueva, 5521 Silvertip Drive, Kearns.  Stated there are no lights in Mountain Man Park and is extremely dark.  Asked for lighting there.  The Door Christian Church is having a children’s carnival on 7-18-2009, free, from approx. 3:00 PM—7:00 PM.  Would like council help on funding, permits, etc… Brett gave her a special funds request form.

 

Public Reports---Chairman Report---Kevin reported the Taste of Kearns event was a huge success last night.  County Report---Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon was in attendance and gave report on the H1N1 influenza in Salt Lake County.  Stated that the township bill passed and that has “locked in our boarders”.  Unified Police issue passed and police dept’s will be patterned like Unified Fire Authority.  They have finished the county budget with cost savings included.  County feels this is a good time to build and bond.  Some stimulus funding coming their way for housing, health & human services, energy efficient, etc… Westside Representative—Greg Schulz reported that the Lodestone Park issue will be heard at the Committee Of The Whole, Salt Lake County Council, on 6-2-09 at 1:00 PM.  Greg stated the Salt Lake County and Rocky Mountain Power are working together to see what trees will work best in the Kearns community for the request of additional trees to be planted in Mountain Man and Loder Park.  Sheriff---Deputy Skee Afatasi thanked the Taste Of Kearns Committee for another great Taste Of Kearns Event.  Asked Paula to make sure they are all thanked.  Deputy Afatasi stated they have a focus on starting additional neighborhood watch groups.  There is only one active group in Kearns now, the Park Wood Neighborhood Watch.  The sheriff office has made several graffiti arrests.  He announced the baseball game for Night Out Against Crime between the sheriff office and the fire fighters will be 8-1-09, 6:00 PM, Gates Field.      

 

Committee Reports--- Community Involvement---Paula stated she will make sure the Taste of Kearns committee receives the thanks people have passed on regarding another great event.  ACCT---Brett reported that ACCT is seriously looking into getting insurance to cover community councils.  Still need to pay dues.  Public Works---Marlon reported the cement wall is almost complete along 5600 West.  Will begin painting it soon.  The master plan for the Oquirrh Park area and the LDS church pavilion request will go before Kearns Planning & Zoning at their next meeting.  Holiday Festival---Kathy reported this Utah Olympic Oval / KCC Holiday Festival will be held on 11-28-09 at 6:00 PM this year.  It was moved up from December because of the Utah Olympic Oval hosting a world cup speed skating event the first two weeks in December. 

 

Unfinished Business---Float---No one has heard back from Dave Anderson / Pipe & Tube about accessing the property where float is stored.  Paula reported that it is to late now to create a float for any of the parades.  St. Francis Church---Brett reported they are building an addition to the facility.  They will be tearing down the small old building on the property to accommodate additional parking.  KJHS Recycle Dumpster---Kathy was able to reach the teacher over this at KJHS and he has asked to come to the council and give an update.

 

New Business---Salt Lake County---Megan reported that the Tony Hawk grant they applied for the skate park was turned down.  The county will continue to look at applying again for it at a later date.  Funding Requests---Paula Redmond, 4091 So. Rancho Vista Lane, WVC, with the Kearns Pony League Baseball stated that they have torn down the back stops, etc… on the field.  Their previous donators have not come through now because of the bad economy and would like to request some funding from the council, approx. $6000.00.  Other---Paula presented invoice to be paid to Interform for council member’s business cards--$78.30 & receipts for reimbursement to Paula for information and supplies for council booth at Taste of Kearns--$290.27.  ***Motion by Paula for same.  2nd by Kathy.  Vote called for.  6 yes, 0 no.  Motion passed. 

 

8:00 PM  ***Motion by Paula to extend public meeting to 8:15 PM.  2nd by Brett.  Vote called for 6 yes, 0 no.  Motion passed.

 

***Motion by Marlon for reimbursement to him for water and candy at council Taste of Kearns booth in the amount of $30.30.  2nd by Kathy.  Vote called for.  6 yes, 0 no.  Motion passed.  Secretary Position---Marlon stated other council members need to step up and help out with this.  The current Vice Chair is holding both Vice Chair and Secretary position.  Kevin stated this will be the last time this issue is addressed and asked for any volunteers to take on secretary position.  No volunteers.  Kevin stated will stand as is till someone wants to take over as secretary.  ChamberWest Magazine---Kevin stated he has spoke with ChamberWest President Alan Anderson and he stated if the council wants the entire back page for advertising along with a magnet the cost would be approx. $0.44 per issue with approx. 10,000 issues being distributed.  Total approx. cost would be $4000.00.  Paula declared conflict of interest on this issue stating she has a professional association with the publisher Jeff Haaga the chamber has gone with.  She will not be voting on this issue.  ***Motion by Kent that this requires further discussion and would like tabled for now.  2nd by Brett.  Vote called for.  5 yes, 0 no.  Motion passed.
