Blueprint Jordan River

Blue Print Jordan RiverMayors from Davis, Salt Lake and Utah Counties kicked-off the Blueprint Jordan River effort by taking a quick trip down the Jordan River on Monday, May 5th, at the Walden Park Pavilion (5425 South Murray Parkway Avenue) on the Jordan River Parkway.

Blueprint Jordan River is the first comprehensive look at the river’s entire length. All 15 municipalities and three counties along the river are participating. Denver, Boise and other communities have reclaimed their urban rivers, and we can, too! Salt Lake County is sponsoring the effort, and Envision Utah is facilitating it.

Blueprint Jordan River aims to learn the most broadly supported ideas on how to enhance the river as well as the surrounding trails and the form of new buildings.

Workshops are being held the first two weeks of May:

  • Tues., May 6th -- Sandy City Hall, 10000 Centennial Parkway (upstairs room)
  • Wed., May 7th -- Salt Lake Community College, 4600 Redwood Rd. (Oak Room - Student Union)
  • Thurs., May 8th -- Day Riverside Library, 1575 W. 1000 N. in Salt Lake City
  • Tues., May 13th -- Utah Cultural Center, 1355 W. 3100 S. in West Valley City
  • Wed., May 14th -- Bluffdale Elementary School, 14323 S. 2700 W. in Bluffdale
  • Thurs., May 15th -- Saratoga Shores Elementary School, 1415 S. Parkside Dr. in Saratoga Springs

The results of these workshops will become a vision for the river corridor. The vision will then be translated into an action plan to shape the river corridor now and for the next few decades.

We also want to make the public aware that if they are unable to attend a workshop but still want to share their opinion, they can go to www.blueprint.slco.org to complete the same survey that will be used at the workshops.

From Lehi to North Salt Lake, the Jordan River remains a unique opportunity. With creativity and leadership, we can turn a sometimes \ neglected and underappreciated resource into one of the signature elements of the Wasatch Front.

Household ChemicalsSalt Lake County residents finally have a good place for all those cans of old paint, solvents and household chemicals taking up good storage space: their nearby hazardous waste collection sites.

Community collection events began April 10 in Sandy and will continue at key valley locations all summer in addition to the permanent waste disposal sites operated by the county.

Pill Bottles"This year we have initiated a program to accept old medications at all of our community collection days," said Dorothy Adams, who oversees the county's household hazardous waste program.

"We hope this will encourage residents to properly dispose of their prescriptions and protect the environment from careless contamination." When discarded pharmaceuticals are flushed down the toilet or the drain, they can contaminate drinking water supplies.

Salt Lake East-West Transportation Planning Study

East West Transportation Study The Utah State legislature asked the Utah Department of Transportation to conduct a transportation planning study on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley to analyze east-west mobility.

The Salt Lake East-West Transportation Planning Study responds to a recent bill the legislature passed to fund transportation planning studies. The studies will help communities address Utah's growing east-west mobility challenges due to continued population growth and a strong economy.

The study team will analyze the current transportation system, identify system improvement options, consider challenges related to those options and suggest a timeline that will coordinate with other planned transportation improvements.
